It’s a big steaming pile of crap.
The end.

Seven days ago I decided to allow the service pack 1 for Vista Home Basic to install in hopes it might resolve some of the random sluggishness and lock ups I experience. This took forever first of all but eventually it proceeded through all three stages of install.
Every time I turn on my laptop it tells me it is on stage 1 of 3 of the service pack install and at 0%. It never proceeds past 0%, it just mysteriously jumps to the log in screen. This is still going on after 7 days. After logging in and waiting 13 minutes for my desktop to become available I am able to begin working. This lovely piece of schlock turned my laptop into the equivalent of an etch a sketch for about 5 days because the entire system was as responsive as a turtle in a block of ice.
Yesterday I went to a Microsoft seminar and our gift for attending was a full version of Vista Ultimate. Rumor has it that Ultimate is a slightly smaller, less smelly pile of crap so I figure I got nothing to lose by trying it out right? Will do the upgrade this weekend since I’ll have three days to fight with it. The fact that I feel three days may not be adequate is quite depressing.
