Indian grocery

Tonight I finally had a chance to visit India Bazaar grocery story. I’m not sure why I am so taken with the Indian culture but I am. As soon as I walked in I was met with that calming aroma of incense. I was surprised at the variety of foods available. With a little bit of wistfullness I inspected the shelves filled with unfamiliar names, bags and boxes. Even the items in clear wrap were indiscernible to me. I picked a couple items up and turned them over like an archeologist with some ancient artifact. Wishing I knew what to buy or what to try I moved on to find my assam tea. Then I wanted to peruse their produce and what a jackpot! So many odd things and the woman working didn’t even know what they all were. I did nearly squeak in joy when she told me one of the items is mangrove root. I’m sure you are wondering why that would be such good news but to a hermit crab owner it makes sense. They love mangrove trees! So I plan to feed some of the root and then attempt to plant some.
Here are some of the fun things I saw. The green pokey thing looked so exotic but the woman couldn’t tell me what it was. The small pear looking thing is a fruit and I bought one. The big long things are also fruit I guess and the lady said it was good mixed with onions, peppers and garlic. The bottom one was a complete mystery.
