Everyday is a struggle to silence my insanity

48 hours with Droid

I’ve been using my Droid for about 48 hours now. While I wasn’t totally won over at the store, I am now.

Droid is amazingly fast and its hard to believe you are using a phone when you are flying around on the web or jumping between applications. During the first day I really did a number on the battery. I was playing with the phone a lot and trying to get my Exchange push mail working. I still haven’t been able to get it to work but with it running trying to connect it drained my battery. Today was much better. I added a power option widget to one of my home pages (there are three) and disabled the GPS since I don’t need it in day to day use. My battery life has barely been affected today.

I am still having a time getting used to the keyboard. The physical keyboard is just a touch too wide. The virtual keyboard is easier to use in landscape mode. I’m very spoiled by being able to touch type one handed on my Blackberry Pearl. So this is going to be my hardest adjustment. This is my first touchscreen phone so I still am not used to the idea of the screen locking itself but I totally get why it does it. I’m sure in a couple weeks it will be a total non issue.

When I signed in with my google account, all my data was synced to the phone. I was surprised to find there was no Google Reader widget by default but I easily added it as a shortcut on my homepage. I love how the phone syncs so much together. If I have a contact who is on facebook also, it shows their most recent status update when I text that person. It also added everyone’s pic to their address book entry whether it was from gmail or Facebook.

I’ve made a couple calls, finally, and the call quality is really outstanding. I took a couple pics with the camera and I LOVE that it has built in cropping. :cheer: The Android market seems to have a lot of great stuff. Rather easily I found and installed a new theme.

The default Facebook widget seems pointless as it just shows your friends recent status update in a slideshow and nothing else. Launching the Facebook app is just as fast and its full featured. Maybe I don’t use Facebook enough to see the need to have the widget.

I installed Seesmic for Droid Twitter app and its kick ass. I use the dekstop version too. I wish it had multi acct support but I’ll bet that’s coming. For my second Twitter acct I installed Twitroid but I don’t like that UI as much.

On my to-do list at this point:
Figure out why Exchange push is not working :pullhair:
Find an App to make some of my photos hidden
Figure out if I can create additional sound profile. I like to have a quieter less obtrusive set of sounds for when I’m at work. Right now its either off or on.
Find the hack or app for tethering
Figure out how to install and use custom ringtones.
