Let me start out by saying I really love this phone and all it does. I absolutely have no regrets about giving up my Blackberry. However, like all gadgets, the Droid is not without its drawbacks and/or bugs. So in no particular order here are my current gripes:
You can’t forward a text as an email via your contacts. When you type in the name you only get their mobile number and no option to choose their email. You can manually type in the email address but this seems like extra steps to me. You should get the entire contact and be able to choose the method of forwarding, as is the design on a Blackberry.
There is no built in profile management, the phone is either silent or you have to manually configure. The BB had a great built in tool that let you create different profiles for sounds/alerts/ringtones etc. I downloaded Locales to manage this on the Droid and its very powerful but the control is not as granular.
The default Facebook app is pretty lame. If I were a heavy Facebook user I would be super annoyed by this, luckily its not that big of a deal to me.
No photo privacy! Holy thumbnails batman! Good thing I didn’t accidentally open my pictures to show someone a photo and discover those glaring thumbnails exposing things that shouldn’t be. I found an app called Photo Safe that will let you hide select photos. PHEW!
The browser has no close or exit option. The idea is that you would just leave it open in the background. Call me anal but I want it closed so I back all the way out of it.
There is no option to select all in email. You can manually select all and then delete.
I wish the display didn’t go dark during a call. If you need to enable the keypad to push a button you have to wake the display up and then enable the keypad. More unnecessary extra steps. I suppose it’s a battery saving thing but at least wait 10 min into the call so I’m past any sort of keypunching.
I’m still finding the physical keyboard to be awkward. If you are left handed I’m guessing it wouldn’t be an issue but I have to use my left hand for the majority of my typing now and that is not my dominant hand. Instead of my thumbs being centered over G and H, they are hover H and J. I have been using it more lately to try to get comfortable with it but the onscreen keyboard is more natural.
The other night my screen seemed to be all out of whack and I reported someone for spam on twitter without meaning to!:pullhair: Sorry! All apps seemed to be responding wonky so I just rebooted the Droid and it was fine.
Two current problems that seem to be bugs:
When charging the Droid, sometimes when it reaches 100% charge the display lights up and will NOT stay off even if you press the button. The current way to fix this is to completely power off. Verizon said they anticipate this being addressed in the next update, next month I think.
The other issue seems to be quite widespread and that is no surf on Wifi. Mine actually worked for a week or two and then just up and quit. It still connects and acts as if its working but no data is being transmitted. It stopped working prior to the first update so I was hoping it would be fixed. In trying to fix it I wanted to delete my current home wifi account but there is no ‘delete’ option. Only ‘forget’. When using ‘forget’ the account still showed in my list until I backed all the way out and came back in to the wifi settings. After doing that I am going to try again tonite. Another thing I saw on the Motorola forum was to try stopping and starting the service. Verizon is only able to offer very limited help with this.
If you need to call for Droid support at Motorola the number is: 1-866-721-5480
My battery life is much better than it was the first week, I’m tinkering less and not fighting with my exchange email account. (not a Droid issue)
Seesmic and Twitroid have been steadily updating their apps so they are both pretty solid. Twitroid now allows multiple accounts but I haven’t tried it yet to see how well it works.
I’ve used Google Voice a little bit and I love how easily integrated it is! Of course google chat and gmail are awesome. The GPS is really sweet too. Google Wave will not open in the Droid browser which seems like a bit of a faux paux but right now Wave is so damn slow I don’t know that I would want to access it on my Droid.
Apps I’ve installed:
