Okay fine…try it at home but don’t blame me if it’s not successful.
Our last session at therapy was uneventful. Things have been very good at home so I wasn’t sure how our session last night was going to go and I was actually considering asking George if we should cut back to twice a month or something until something comes up. The thing being that if things are good we only have the option of rehashing the past and trying to bring something productive from that. Well George totally reversed my thinking! He gave us surveys to fill out and asked us to then write a summary paragraph.
After we did that he then asked us to go item by item and discuss our responses and he would interject where needed. We only got through half of the list but this led to some very positive discussion between us, not something we could have done on our own at home. We talked about my needs and it was very apparent that Matt is listening to me and knows what has to change. It was really amazing to me how productive this was. Even though he was obviously tired, he didn’t let that affect our session. He was 100% there and 100% focused on being involved.
At the end we read our paragraphs even though we didn’t finish all the other items. Matt said some amazing, wonderful things about me that were so heartwarming and touching. I definitely feel it brought us closer. Matt is VERY actively participating in this process and it gives me the hope and faith I need.
