Blog Design, Content and EntreCard Widget Placement

Last weekend I signed up at a site that makes dropping your EC card much easier. Get your 300 Entrecard drops in minutes by using the hand batch scripts on the site. Each click opens 10 sites belonging to Entrecard users so that you can drop your card on them. You can add your site as well and be included in the newest batch. I find it hard to card drop the traditional way from blog to blog as I often find myself running out of new blogs and having to go back to the EC site to start again.

Please bear in mind these are only my personal views and opinions.

So in one week of use I’ve made a couple observations about myself. The first being that if I find the EC widget right at the top of the page, I drop and then scroll down through the blog posts to see what the site is about. If I have to hunt for the widget, I don’t read anything I just click and go on. The second being that if the layout is too chaotic, I can’t digest any of what is going on with a quick scan and I leave. I have a very short attention span when it comes to reading online. Too much thrown at me at once and I zone out.

This led me to consider my own blogs. I have always blogged solely for my own purposes. Here I blog about my life, this is my journal. My other sites focus on my hobbies and interests. Blogging has never been about making money online. I lack the focus required to make any real money. Just covering my hosting bill would make me happy. That is not even close to happening by the way. ROFL Still my blogs are open to the world to read and I think we all would hope that someone finds what we are saying interesting. Most of the widgets and such on my blogs are about me and things I love. It’s hard for me to take an objective viewpoint when it comes to what should stay and what should go. In all honesty, I would remove any sort of ads or traffic builders before I will remove the things I find important or fun. My site is a bad example of a site designed to make money.

I know there are other EC users out there who are trying hard to monetize their blogs successfully. Maybe my point of view will give them some insight to how readers are seeing their site. Or it might just piss them off.

I’m going to pick a single batch from 300 Entrecard drops in minutes and give you my 10 second impression of each site.

Clean layout, uncluttered but bright and cheerful! I read the first post and liked it.

All white backgrounds are boring to me… didn’t read anything.

Starts off with an ad, which I hate. Looks like a marketing site.

Some sort of site for Pinoy writers. There are a TON of Pinoy bloggers I’ve noticed. Didn’t seem relevant to me in anyway.

Classy and cute! Her blog description makes me love her immediately. Bookmarking her! She’s on Twitter too, even better! Follow!

Layout is great, very organized and easy to navigate. Don’t like that the two top boxes are about subscribing. If the entries really are about things overheard, I like the idea!

Clean but seems a little bland? No pics or anything to break up the text. But it is a blog about writing so that is probably on purpose.

Great skin. Some sort of online story blog or something? IDK… I don’t have enough free time to get caught up in something like this LOL

Skin looks default but it’s nice. Content looks interesting, like it’s a personal blog much like mine. I like this one!

Nice! Food how to blog with great pics! I’ve been on this blog before but I have no idea how I came to be there. I like this one too!

I hope this is helpful to someone. Please don’t be hurt, not looking to be mean. If you are so inclined, check out these sites and tell me if you agree or disagree with my first impressions.

MelHello! I'm the writer of the Apocalypse Blog. Glad you liked the setup of the site! (Even if you don't read it. ;) ) Always nice to know what people think.

For the record, yes, it is a fictional blog. The world didn't really end yet! At least, not as far as I know. :D

I love the skin you use for this blog, too. I'm a fan of clean designs and pretty colours.

Thanks for stopping by!
