First day of orientation

So far I haven’t written much about my work assignment because I wanted to wait until started my orientation. Now to clarify things I am now working for III which is an IT Consulting firm in the St Louis area. As their employee, I have been placed as a full time contractor with one of their clients. I am the full time IT support/helpdesk person for this client. So when I talk about my job or about work I am talking about my assignment with this client.

This client is a family founded organization created in the 1950’s to provide support, education, respite and community integration for people with disabilities. The work they do is so important and rewarding and truly selfless. This is what really excited me about going to work for them. I am going to be able to be part of a team of people whose sole focus is to help people with disabilities have a full, rich and independent lifestyle. Their reach is wide in the St Louis area and they help thousands of individuals and families.

This morning was my introduction to the history of the organization as well as a brief overview of accepted vocabulary. Typically I don’t give a lot of thought to this sort of thing but it was a real eye opener when presented to you from the view point of the person with the disability. So I feel like I experienced some personal growth today in how I think and respond to people with disabilities. Tomorrow is day two of the orientation.

Some of the girls from PENTA want to get together for lunch this week, that should be fun. I do miss them. I think Mel is going to call Danielle and see if she will come also.

Matt got called out to work this morning right after I got up. His work days are Monday and Tuesday. So he will work those two days with UP every week. He is still looking for jobs online. We are both stressed, he moreso I think. I am having headaches that last all thru the night or I wake up with them. They aren’t migraines but instead in the back of my head and for now some aspirin is knocking them out. We cut back our cable so that means I can’t watch Season 2 of True Blood. :( We signed on our refi on Friday so we have a month without a mortgage payment. That will give us a small cushion. Instead of letting it come between us, we are talking and discussing our options.
