HIDA Scan

Tuesday was my gall bladder HIDA Scan. I snapped a couple pics at the beginning and end of the testing. It takes about an hour and requires an IV. In the first phase they inject a radioactive trace and wait 30 minutes for it to fill the liver and then move into the gall bladder. It shows up on the screen as white dots. I know from numerous movies and tv shows that exposure to radioactive material turns you into a superhero. I’m not sure yet what my super power is but I’m sure it will reveal itself in due time.

The second part of the test they inject something to simulate a fatty meal to stimulate the gall bladder as if you were eating. The woman administering the test said I might feel pain, or cramping, or gas or nausea. I got all of the above. It was incredibly painful but it didn’t take long to realize this pain is the pain I was experiencing last week and a couple months ago when I had attacks that felt like a heart attack. She didn’t have to give me much to set me off again after the pain began to move down into my intestine. Holy cow I wasn’t expecting it to be so intense. Do you see the creepy face in the dots? I have a demon in my belly! :irule:

As of right now I’m waiting to hear from my doctor about the plan. I need to get in fast and be recovered by Feb 12 or put it off till after Feb 17. We can’t lose the $1k we spent for our hotel in New Orleans :(

If for some reason you want to see a larger version of the pics, just click them.
