I got pulled over for making a turn with no blinker and not wearing my seat belt but the ticket was just for the seat belt. 10 bucks not a big deal.
I’m pretty sure the blinker was an excuse to nail me for my seat belt. I’m really religious about using my blinker because its one of my pet peeves about people around here. I was in the turn lane and I’m sure there had to be at least 2 other cars who turned with no blinker but I was the only one not wearing my seat belt. In Missouri you can’t be pulled over for no seat belt alone, there has to be another reason. I wasn’t really paying attention but I may have turned it on and it timed out on me but its irrelevant at this point. It wasn’t on when I turned and that’s a violation. Course its also a state law that you have to have your headlights on when its raining and there were certainly plenty of cars that didn’t.
I have no intentions of wearing my seat belt. If my next car is more comfortable, I’ll consider wearing it. It should be my choice, just like wearing a helmet (not my choice in Missouri but let’s not start that). I’m short and have to sit very far forward in my car. When I buckle in I am strapped so tight to the seat I can’t even adjust the volume on my radio. The belt digs into my neck. If my new car is a more comfortable fit, I’ll likely buckle up.
23 years of driving and I’ve only EVER had 2 tickets, both of them for not wearing my seat belt. The only accident I’ve been in was when I hit a deer while still in high school. My record should prove that I’m a good driver. My first seatbelt ticket, in Illinois, was much more expensive. Still not going to change my mind.
Don’t bother lecturing me about safety. Its my life and if I choose to endanger it by driving with no seatbelt, that’s my business. Not the state’s or the US Governments.
