Mommy for a day

Walking through a state park type place with a settler camp and an Illinois version of mount rushmore.
There were old passenger trains traveling through the camp, crowded buildings and tents.
I found a dark hair, chubby little girl wandering and
carried her around all day looking for parents.
Late in the day I met a man who says he knew her parents. He takes the baby and I follow him. We go down some stairs and onto a dark path behind a house.
I stopped after he went around a corner because I thought it was a trap and in front of me was a thick stand of trees. Someone standing next to me and someone was in the trees and I felt they had a weapon pointed at me though I couldn’t see it. I tried explaining to them, thinking it was the baby’s father.

The trees fall away and the guy starts talking about deer, nothing to do with me so I continued following the guy. When I catch up with the guy he had handed over the baby to the family.

They were trying to convince me that I agreed to take the baby for a few hours and then meet them at noon to give her back. I insisted I had no idea what they were talking about didn’t know who they were or what they looked like. The baby was crying, trying to get down from her mother’s lap and come back to me.
