What drives people to forward chain letters?

I just don’t get how these things continue to be so popular. I have never forwarded a chain letter in my life, not even before email. How bizarre is it that people used to forward actual hand written chain letters? That takes so much more effort that hitting FORWARD.  But again what are people thinking? Are they really so superstitious? Do they think the email is amusing?

Why do you think people continue to forward chain letter?

Have you ever forwarded?

Do you forward? Why or why not?

SarahI fell for a few when first online, the notorious $250 cookie recipe chain because I thought it was actually from a friend of a relative as the headers indicated. And the Politically Correct Santa joke which was hilarious the first time, but not after getting it and other repeated Christmas chain letters every time the holiday rolled around. Also, back then, I didn't even realize they actually were chain letters, and what forms chains could take. Now, I never forward anything from friends and don't even like any fwd I get, because they are just chain letters and my friends who sent them just keep showing how they allow themselves to get manipulated into sending around some viral crap. I won't even participate in the latest Facebook or Twitter viral games (Farmville, ugh!) Because they are chain letters and just about everybody is into them.

CorrinaThat shit makes me crazy and I don't forward it, ever. As irritating as it is in my inbox, it REALLY annoys me when I get chain text messages.

You'd think people would outgrow crap like that but I suppose that's wishful thinking.

Nice blog by the way! ;-) I'm gonna go check out your jewelry now.

See ya on Twittah.

DaeSarah I have trained most of my friends and family NOT to send me that stuff anymore. Once in awhile something cute slips through and I decide to send it but first I delete all the crap off of the email.

Corrina those damn text chains piss me off! Yes I have unlimited texting but not everyone knows that. Thanks!!!
